A National Unity Party (NUP) lawmaker has proposed the  establishment of  marine protected areas in all coastal cities and towns in the Philippines to help guarantee the country’s food security, ensure the  sustainable growth of its marine resources and protect the livelihood of small fisherfolk.

National Unity Party vice president Elpidio Barzaga Jr. has rejected calls to impeach  President Benigno Aquino III, saying there was no basis to initiate such proceedings against him in the Congress. 

The House of Representatives approved on second reading late Friday night (September 27, 2013)  the proposed P2.268-trillion national budget for 2014 minus the lump-sum appropriations of P25.24 billion for the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). 

The Congress has ratified the bicameral conference committee report deferring the Sangguniang Kabataan elections scheduled in October this year to a later date to be determined by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). 

A lawmaker from the National Unity Party (NUP) has proposed a law establishing a National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) that will control, manage and operate all dams in the country to ensure that these structures remain safe and operate efficiently while preventing  destruction to lives and property.
